There’s an old adage that “you get what you pay for.”
In most areas of life and business, this is true. Not necessarily so, however, webhosting industry. Often, you pay too much, and you get what you pay for.
Several weeks ago I received a call from a friend of mines web designers.
“John”, he said, “You will not believe.”
He said a plastic surgeon, was the redesign of a website. This client was paying $ 600.00 per month for the hosting account.
“The amazing thing is” related, “I can not get the current host to return my phone calls or emails.”
After looking at the needs of clients, I was shocked to discover that there was something special about his site that justified his being on anything other than a shared hosting plan base. We quoted him a monthly income of less than five dollars.
In this case, the customer had been raped by ruthless master, who was not only overcharging him, but does not provide even basic support he needed.
This is an extreme example, perhaps, but too often characterizes the poor deal that most owners fall into the website.
Several years ago, there was no such thing as a webhosting industry. Almost all the sites were hosted by local ISP. The average monthly cost of creating a website was $ 20.00 per month. Often, if you called the ISP with a technical question, they will tell you to buy a book or take a class.
By 1996, we saw the emergence of a few “webhosting” companies. These are the companies which were strictly committed to hosting sites. Through economies of scale, they were able to offer incredibly useful accommodation packages for about $ 10.00 per month. Moreover, some of these companies have provided technical help which was oriented towards meeting a website owners needs.
Fast forward to 2005 and now we see the emergence of a new type of web hosts – web hosting at low cost. These are companies that offer hosting for less than $ 5.00 per month.
Typically, web hosting providers at low cost are newer companies. There is a reason. It is extremely difficult for older companies to lower their prices when they have a large customer paying higher prices. They are Slashing their gross domestic product, and most companies simply can not afford.
So how do cheap webhosting offer a price so low to begin?
One part is that the servers, disk space and bandwidth are much, much cheaper than they were several years ago. Cheap web hosting providers benefit.
The second part is the cheap hosting providers that use a different business model that suppliers older. Business Web hosting is a very competitive deal. Until recently, web hosts attempted to compete by offering the most tools and functions. The problem with this model is that not everyone needs everything. Most web hosts provide free backup services for all customers. The backups are expensive and not everyone needs or wants them, but everyone pays for them, because they have built the cost of the package.
Cheap webhosting provider, on the other hand, can give you the basic features that everyone uses but offer weekly backups as an adjunct to the movies available, putting the cost of backup sites only customers who want this service .
All this sounds good, I know, but what about service? Will I get a competent customer service and fast a company that charges me $ 4.00 per month?
The answer, surprisingly, is usually yes.
It ‘clear that not all cheap web hosting providers will give you great service. But not all cheap web hosting providers give good service either. Our friend the plastic surgeon does not get his $ 600.00 host to return his emails.

Choosing a cheap web host is not always a great idea. Often choosing a cheap web host is exaclty that, cheap and for a reason. You should look for reliable web hosting in my opinion that offers free technical support. I have had lots of success Media Fortress who offer lots of services, like a free website builder with all of their hosting packages. If you are looking for Australian Hosting then I can not recommend them enough. I have found their technical support to be very good and it is free. So choosing a cheap host is not always the best. Some other hosts claim to be free or cheap but it is not always the case.
Now that’ is one bad way of representing all web masters out there. I hope I won’t encounter a webmaster like this. Thank you as well because you have opened my senses to what I should avoid in the hosting business.
